Recent works developed in Italy focus on sensory and environmental experience of the Italian studio. The series responds to the shimmering summer heat and the freedom of open space, utilizing found materials from the property and multi-layered oil media on handmade frames.
The art pieces created in Italy draw inspiration from the the Abruzzese landscape, including the olive and mulberry trees, the sea and port, the Adriatic beach, rolling hills, the presence of its people and animals as doves, pigeons, cats and dogs. The iconic Piccionaia logo, a pigeon designed by my father, architect and multidisciplinary creator V.Hierl, serves as a recurring stencil motif.
My artistic process involves using multi-layered paints mixed with oils on canvas, which are later stretched on handmade wooden frames.
